Deira City Center

Deira City Center, one of Dubai’s most prominent and long-standing malls, underwent a major redevelopment aimed at modernising its facilities and elevating the overall visitor experience. The renovation focused on increasing capacity, enhancing aesthetics, and incorporating advanced systems that support safety, accessibility, and sustainability.

Design Confidence provided expert engineering and advisory services, with a focus on upgrading the mall’s fire and life safety systems. The scope included a full review and enhancement of fire alarms, smoke detection, sprinkler systems, emergency lighting, and fire suppression infrastructure. All solutions were developed to meet the latest local and international safety codes.

To optimise emergency preparedness, Design Confidence applied advanced pedestrian flow modelling to improve evacuation efficiency. This involved the strategic placement of emergency exits, assembly points, and wayfinding signage, ensuring clear and safe egress for all occupants.

Accessibility was also a key focus. The team conducted a comprehensive review based on ADA and international best practices, advising on the integration of ramps, lifts, accessible washrooms, and wider corridors to accommodate visitors with mobility challenges. The result was a fully inclusive space that welcomed people of all abilities.

Design Confidence also supported the mall’s sustainability goals by recommending energy-efficient systems within its fire and safety infrastructure. All recommendations were integrated seamlessly with the broader building design, ensuring functionality without compromising aesthetics or performance.

Through its multi-disciplinary expertise and user-centric approach, Design Confidence helped transform Deira City Center into a safer, more accessible, and future-ready destination.
